Personal Year number
Your Personal Year is the timing layer of numerology. It combines your birthday with the current calendar year to describe the season you are in right now, and it moves through a nine-year cycle.
The nine-year cycle
- 1A year of beginningsA fresh cycle opens. Energy goes into starting, choosing and backing yourself.
- 2A year of connectionA slower, more receptive year. Patience, partnership and small details matter more than big moves.
- 3A year of expressionA social, expressive year. Ideas, conversation and play come more easily.
- 4A year of buildingA practical year for foundations, routines and steady work.
- 5A year of changeA restless, open year. Movement, travel and new experiences pull hard.
- 6A year of commitmentA year centered on home, care and responsibility to the people who matter.
- 7A year of reflectionA quieter, inward year for thinking, learning and taking stock.
- 8A year of momentumAn ambitious year focused on goals, money, work and visible progress.
- 9A year of completionThe end of a nine-year cycle. A year for finishing, letting go and making room.
How it is calculated
Reduce your birth month, your birth day and the current calendar year to single digits, add them, and reduce the total to a number from 1 to 9. The birth year is not used.
For example, someone born on March 14 in the calendar year 2026: the month is 3, the day 14 becomes 1 plus 4, which is 5, and 2026 becomes 2 plus 0 plus 2 plus 6, which is 10 and then 1. Adding 3, 5 and 1 gives 9, so 2026 is a Personal Year 9. In 2027 the same person moves into a Personal Year 1. In this app's method, the Personal Year changes every January 1, not on your birthday.
The nine years
Year 1: beginnings. A time for fresh starts, new decisions and independent moves.
Year 2: connection and patience. Relationships, cooperation and slower, quieter progress come to the fore.
Year 3: expression. More social energy, creativity and a wish to be seen and heard.
Year 4: building. Practical effort, routines and laying foundations that will hold.
Year 5: change. Movement, freedom and shake-ups, sometimes welcome and sometimes not.
Year 6: commitment and responsibility. Home, family and the people who rely on you take center stage.
Year 7: reflection. An inward year for study, rest and reassessing what matters.
Year 8: achievement. Ambition, work and tangible results tend to take up more space.
Year 9: completion and release. Wrapping up chapters and letting go to make room for what comes next.
When two people are in different years
Partners are often in different Personal Years, and that can explain a lot. One person in a Year 1 may be eager to start something new while the other, in a Year 7, wants to slow down and think. A Year 6 partner may be focused on home just as a Year 5 partner is craving change.
None of this is a problem in itself. Seeing the difference simply makes it easier to understand why you might want different things at the moment, and to plan with both seasons in mind. When both people are in the same or neighboring years, the timing layer tends to agree with itself, and shared projects may feel easier to start.
